Marathon

A marathon is a long-distance running event with a standard distance of 26.2 miles (42.195 kilometers). It is typically held on roads and is often a competitive race, drawing runners of various skill levels, from elite athletes to amateurs. The term “marathon” originates from the legendary run of Pheidippides, a Greek soldier who is said to have run from the battlefield of Marathon to Athens to deliver news of victory over the Persians in 490 BC. Marathons are popular worldwide, with many cities hosting annual races that attract thousands of participants. In addition to the traditional road marathon, variations such as trail marathons and ultra-marathons exist, which may include different terrains and longer distances. The marathon is also associated with various physical and mental challenges, symbolizing endurance, perseverance, and personal achievement.
